
Walter Earl Rhodes, Jr., the son of the late Walter E. Rhodes, Sr. and Ocsia Olene Rhodes, was born October 5, 1934 in Glasgow, Kentucky. Walter accepted Jesus as Savior at an early age; he was a member of Mt. Paren Baptist Church, Indianapolis and he attended the Indianapolis Public School system. He was married to the late Margret Jamerson Rhodes.
Walter retired from Flint Ink Company. After retirement he worked as a delivery driver for Bottom Line. Walter enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved and enjoyed life to the fullest. His dear friends for over 40 years, Bernise and Jeffrie Head, were card playing and vacation buddies. Walter always let you know he has had a good, long life and that God has been good to him. Walter married Tonda Curry Rhodes on August 10, 2013. He also became a member of Speedway General Baptist Church.
Walter departed this life on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter E. Rhodes and Ocsia Rhodes; wife Margret Rhodes; brother Walter “Jake” Rhodes; sisters Judy R. Dillard, Geneva R. Sales, LouAnna R. Key, and Wilma R. Sublett.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Tonda Curry Rhodes; children LaWanna (Aaron) Kelly, Donna D. Kelly, Walter (Cathy) Rhodes III, Jeremy, James (Sara), Josjua, John, and Jessie Blankenship, April (Vincent) Lewis; 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister Nellie Rhodes; mother-in-law Theresa Kapp; and a host of many relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016, at Speedway General Baptist Church, 3821 West 34th Street, Indianapolis from 4 to 8 pm. Funeral Services will be held at the church on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
